These 6 × 6-inch kiln-formed tiles have a deep, saturated Bondi blue character—a sophisticated blue-green that sits between ocean blue, turquoise, and dark teal. The color has considerable depth and becomes dramatically brighter when illuminated from behind.

Color & Visual Character

Dark Bondi blue: In natural light, the tile appears deep and substantial, with a strong blue-teal/ocean-green undertone.

Brilliant turquoise when backlit: The LED-lit image reveals an intense transformation into a luminous cyan-turquoise blue, demonstrating excellent light transmission.

Strong color depth: The darker lower portions give the tile an almost deep-water appearance, while the illuminated areas become much more vibrant.

Subtle internal movement: There are cloudy tonal variations and faint flowing patterns throughout the glass, creating visual depth beneath the surface.

Organic kiln-formed texture: Numerous tiny bubbles, larger isolated bubbles, and delicate surface irregularities are visible. These imperfections add character and create points where light catches within the tile.

Rounded, softened edges: The finished edges are slightly rounded, producing a darker perimeter that frames the luminous center.

Artistic Qualities

The color is particularly evocative of tropical water, deep ocean pools, lagoons, and peacock feathers. It has enough darkness to provide visual weight while retaining the brilliant blue-green luminosity associated with turquoise glass.

How an Artist Might Use Them

These tiles would be excellent for:

Ocean and underwater artwork — representing deep water, waves, reefs, or tropical lagoons.

Backlit architectural panels — LED illumination can turn the dark blue tile into a brilliant turquoise light source.

Contemporary mosaics — especially when combined with lighter cyan, cobalt, emerald, or clear glass.

Abstract compositions — the 6 × 6-inch square provides a strong geometric element while the internal texture keeps it organic.

Water features and aquatic imagery — the color naturally suggests movement, depth, and reflections.

Tropical or coastal themes — particularly effective with sandy amber, coral, aqua, and green glass.

Illuminated sculpture — the dramatic difference between reflected and transmitted light can become part of the artwork itself.

Overall Impression

These are rich, oceanic kiln-formed tiles with a remarkable light response. In ordinary lighting they have the dignified depth of dark teal-blue glass, while LED illumination brings forward a spectacular bright Bondi blue/turquoise glow. Their bubbles and subtle internal variations further enhance the sense of depth, making them especially compelling for backlit mosaics, architectural installations, and contemporary glass sculpture.
